Located along the Yampa River, our Entertainment District was not always a hot spot for nightlife. Where some of our finest restaurants sit along the river banks, Blacksmiths and Livery stations were the norm less than 100 years ago. Now we eat local ranch steaks and micro greens as we sit on beautifully landscaped patios, enjoying our view of tubers on the Yampa.
When looking at an old map of the area it becomes apparent that we are not so different from past citizens of the Yampa Valley There is a small notation on a map from 1910 that was draw by a local Man recalling his childhood displayed in the Tread of Pioneers Museum. In block letters it reads “willows along the river ‘Hide out For Boys’”. That Hide out is still there in some respects. It is still a popular place for tubers to stop as they float the Yampa River.
The personality of Yampa Street has changed over the years. The restaurant scene celebrates farm to table. Many of the establishments along the river have formed local partnerships to use quality local ingredients in the food they offer.
Yampa Street is also the home of our Farmer’s Market, from June to September every Saturday we gather at the market to get our fresh produce, meat, and flowers. In addition to our farmers, many local artisans show off their wares from handcrafted soaps to clothing and home furnishings. The market is truly a way to experience Steamboat Springs at it’s best.
At night Yampa Street comes alive. The whimsical lights that cross the street create a festival feeling year round. Bridges at 9th and 5th connect Yampa Street to Howelsen Hill, the oldest ski area in Colorado, and the Rodeo Grounds.
